About Me
I have been playing guitar for over a year now. I started out by learning the major chords and scales. What I really wanted to do when it comes to playing guitar is play by ear.
To me this is the ultimate skill you can get down as a guitar player. Reading guitar tabs is fine in the beginning when you are completely new to playing guitar and would like to learn a few songs right away.
But that should just be a phase so you can get it out of your system. I went through the same exact thing. I started out by learning the basics. Then moved onto reading guitar tabs.
Then I learned a few simple songs. But I really got inspired by guitar players who clearly did not learn by reading guitar tabs all day. Then I did some research and thought about it. I realized that all of the most famous guitar players did not learn by reading tabs.
Heck, back then they didn’t even have guitar tabs. They had nothing but their guitars and music to listen to and play along with. That is ultimately what you want to master in order to be a well rounded guitar player. It is not easy especially when trying to play more complex pieces. But with dedication and good practice you will reach your true potential.
I recommend starting out with some online guitar lessons so you can learn the basics. They are cheap and very easy to understand. Of course you can get into music theory and study the fretboard. But like I said I prefer learning the more natural way which is by listening to music and developing a feel for it.
